Connecting solar in Scotland
Some great news from Scottish Power means it’s time to look again if you’ve been considering installing solar in Scotland.
Installing solar PV panels just got a whole lot easier with the news that Scottish Power has relaxed its grid connection rules – just in time to beat the FIT deadline in March 2019.
This has transformed the business case for solar in Scotland, increasing returns and simplifying the installation process, making it much faster to get connected and start generating power and financial returns.
Until now, connecting your solar PV installation could be time consuming and costly but recent changes have made it simpler and cheaper to get on the grid. Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) has announced that it no longer requires a Statement of Works (intent) to be provided for solar installations in Scotland smaller than 200kW.
This could result in savings of £10,000 or more and has the potential to transform the business case for solar installations in the SPEN network area.
If you live in the Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) area, meanwhile, solar installations under 50kW also enjoy a simplified connection process.
With Feed-In Tariff (FIT) payments set to end in March 2019, and return on investment at 15%-20%, the time has never been better to consider solar energy for your farm or business.
